William Warringto (1796-1869) was a successful stained glass artist who worked right up until his retirement in 1866.

But in the industry he was somewhat ridiculed when he published "The History of Stained Glass" in which, instead of genuine examples, he used his own work to illustrate different periods.

He even used his rejected designs, as 'The Ecclesiologist' noted: "We ask for medieval facts; and we are put off with 19th century comptetition sketches"
